Surrey Hills Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV)
Project:
Surrey Hills Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV) Surrey
Client:
Surrey Planning Officers Association
Information:
Chris Burnett Associates were awarded a contract to assess the nature and status of Surrey’s Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV) and its relevance to the emerging LDF process in progress at most of the Local Planning Authorities’ in Surrey. Initial observations were that the designation was inconsistent in a number of areas. This was supported by a wide ranging consultation exercise. CBA developed fresh methodology categorizing the AGLV in terms of its match to the neighbouring Surrey Hills AONB. CBA recommended that the AGLV should be retained to such time that the AONB boundary itself is reviewed. This central finding was accepted by SPOA and the maps and recommendations are now policy in all of the LPAs in the Surrey area.
‘ I am satisfied that the AGLV Review is a thorough and detailed assessment which identifies the close link between the AONB and the AGLV. It demonstrates, through structural landscape character assessment, that there is a very strong likelihood that any further review of the AONB boundary would lead to the inclusion of most, if not all, of the AGLV within it’
